Nami Island

Nami Island is a tiny half-moon shaped island located in Chuncheon, South Korea. It is formed when the water rose up in the North Han River during the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam (청평댐) in 1944.
Crescent-shaped Nami Island

Its name originated from General Nami (남이장군). The general died at the age of 28 after being falsely accused of treason during the reign of King Sejo, the seventh king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea.

This island is a kids-friendly park where they have Picture Books Library and multiple children playgrounds. They also held the annual Children's Book Festival.

Demilitarised Zone (DMZ)

We are now at the famous DMZ which stands for Demilitarized Zone, located in Cheorwon County, right next to the border with North Korea.

Firstly, we went into the Second Tunnel, (3.5km long and 50m-160m deep under the ground). The tunnel was built by the North Korean during the Korean War.

Next, we visited the Peace Observatory where we catch a rare glimpse of the reclusive North Korean state through binoculars.

After that, we visited the Woljeongri Station, a small train yard where rail stock was stored or shunted before leaving for Wonsan, now in North Korea.

We are sorry for not being able to take our selfie at most of the sites due to the stringent photography rules, especially around the military zones.
